Curiosity Approach Learning

Our Mission

At the Beeches our mission is to give your child the very best start in life. To help achieve this our nursery practices the Curiosity Approach to teaching.

The Curiosity Approach aims to create ‘thinkers & doers’ by putting the child at the centre of their own development and education. Modern toys and technology are removed from the learning environment and replaced with everyday items to encourage children’s natural curiosity and eagerness to explore and create.

The Curiosity Approach draws from various other philosophies of early years education, including the Reggio Emilia approach, Te Whãriki, Montessori, Pikler and Steiner.

The Curiosity Approach was co-founded by Lyndsey Hellyn and Stephanie Bennett.

How does the Curiosity Approach work?

The philosophy is centred around the natural curiosity which we are all born with. Providing children with a calm, stress-free environment filled with open-ended resources available at eye-level allows them to figure things out themselves.

Children are challenged to use all their senses to explore and discover how different material feels, how they sound and how they interact.

This encourages children to think for themselves and build confidence without the need for guidance. Children are given the opportunity to use their creativity, imagination, critical thinking, problem-solving and more to teach themselves.
